In this session, we will explore strategies for assessing that go beyond ranking students in terms of grades or points or even standards, but that describe where a student is on a learning path. In this session, we will develop:

- Performance standards and criteria that allow students to explore, take risks, and fail as they learn;
- Descriptive rubrics that enable teachers to provide feedback without imposing limiting criteria, distracting quantifications, and judgmental rankings;
- Strategies for coming to a final grade that acknowledges how a student has grown without penalizing them for failures along the way.
